How to Choose the Right DIY Wallpaper Type : Peel and Stick vs Pre-pasted Wallpaper

Choosing the correct type of wallpaper material is essential to not only getting the right look, but making sure your wallpaper lasts!

There are so many types of wallpaper to choose from, but 2 of Spoonflower’s 6 options, peel and stick and pre-pasted, are considered ideal for DIY do-it-yourself application. Let’s see which type is best for your DIY home decor project!

Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Peel and Stick wallpaper is the loved by the DIY crowd! This type of wallpaper is truly applied very similarly to a sticker. It has an adhesive backing, and can be applied by simply sticking it to the wall.

REMEMBER: peel and stick wallpaper requires a smooth surface in order to adhere properly. It is generally considered to be great for a lower traffic area and can even be removed, so it’s great for renters or anyone who likes to change up their home decor.

SPOONFLOWER’S PEEL & STICK WALLPAPER ~ THINGS TO NOTE:

☀ Subtle woven linen texture with peel and stick backing, matte finish, tear resistant

☀ Suitable for low moisture, low to moderate traffic areas

☀ Self-adhesive, removable and re-positionable wallpaper for smooth, flat, non-textured surfaces

☀ Great for upgrading rooms, temporary spaces, bookcases, shelves, and craft projects

☀ Wallpaper will not stick to surfaces painted with non-VOC/washable/scrubbable paint.

Pre-pasted Wallpaper

Pre-pasted wallpaper is another DIY favorite. This type of wallpaper is requires a dip in some water to activate the paste backing and tends to be a bit more durable than peel and stick.

SPOONFLOWER’S PRE-PASTED WALLPAPER ~ THINGS TO NOTE:

☀ smooth paper with a semi-matte finish and water-activated adhesive backing

☀ Suitable for low moisture, low to moderate traffic areas

☀ Great for upgrading rooms, temporary or permanent spaces

What Type of Wallpaper Should I Use in My Bathroom?

If your bathroom has a shower or bathtub, you’ll need a wallpaper that holds up to moisture. You should consider non-pasted, vinyl or other commercial wallpaper types and ideally seek professional installation.

A powder bathroom with low moisture (no shower or tub) can be decorated with peel and stick or pre-pasted wallpaper as DIY installation.

All of my designs are available in all 6 of Spoonflower’s wallpaper types:
